Accountability is part of recovery. With any other disease, lab work is drawn to monitor progress or decline. Due to the nature of the disease we treat, accountability through monitoring is helpful in keeping our therapeutic work honest. While we don’t believe drug testing stops someone from using, we do see it as a way for us to meet you where you are on your recovery journey. This service is typically recommended by your therapist and is performed on a random basis.
For clients suffering from alcoholism, we have a partnership with SoberLink® to monitor abstinence from alcohol. This tool can help you remain accountable to yourself and your loved ones and can be an excellent resource for rebuilding trust.
Individual Therapy can be a transformative experience. Clients suffering from substance use disorders often feel ashamed and hopeless, they sometimes struggle to open up. Connecting with a therapist who understands can create a relationship, which brings the client hope for change. We are honest and empathic, direct but warm. The therapeutic relationships we build with our clients are sacred and transformative in helping them to achieve their goals, this is our mission.
At SCG we treat clients who suffer from drug addiction, alcoholism, other forms of addiction ( gambling, shopping, internet/gaming, sex), and eating disorders. These disorders go hand and hand with trauma, depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
At our initial appointment, we will discuss your goals for therapy. We are interested in what you have tried that has worked, and what you have found to be not helpful. We are solution-focused in our approach and are either trained or certified in a variety of different treatment models. These models include but are not limited to:
We don’t believe in a cookie-cutter approach to therapy. Each client we serve is an individual and therefore has individual needs. Therapy should not be geared towards what works for the therapist but what works for the client. This is one aspect of what sets SCG apart from other therapy practices. We continually attend workshops and ongoing training to bring more tools and options to help our clients. Together we guide them to make positive changes and transform their struggles into healthy and full lives. Our clients gain freedom, experience growth and reconnect with the path and person they lost along the way. Helping clients who are suffering just as we once were is our greatest honor
Our couples therapy can help you and your partner to reconnect on a deeper level. Many of the couples we work with have had their relationship devastated by addiction. They are experiencing dishonesty, control, anger, hurt, and fear. When a relationship has lost trust it is difficult to find your way back. Often couples find themselves in an unhealthy loop occurring over and over. We can help you get off this track to repair, rebuild and find your way back. Many couples we work with find on the other side of this storm they are closer and more intimate than ever before.
We incorporate couples homework into our therapy. It is just as much about what you do in our office as outside of it. We find by incorporating different directives couples have an opportunity to change patterns quicker and make lasting changes in a shorter period of time. If you are contemplating couples therapy we encourage you to give it a chance. There is hope for a deeper level of love, intimacy and connection. Let us help you find it.
We are very excited to offer this service and it is a huge part of what we do at the Silk Counseling Group. Parents often come to us unsure of the difference between helping versus enabling. They are looking for a consultant to help them find resources for themselves and their child struggling with addiction. We can help guide you beyond the manipulations and mistakes.
Parents are not responsible for their child’s addiction. They didn’t cause it, can’t control it, or even cure it. However, you may have leverage and power to help guide your child towards motivation for recovery. Or maybe they are in treatment and you need ideas for aftercare and how to navigate what to do next. This is all part of our parental coaching service. Let us help you harness the leverage you do have to the betterment of your child. We have been on their side of the fence and can spot the tricks. You don’t have to go at this alone anymore. Helping yourself in turn helps your child.
Many families need a safe place to come together and communicate while working through issues. Through our team approach, many of our client’s family members see different therapists for individual work in our practice. Therapy oftentimes is the only forum that gives each family member a space to feel heard and have their needs respected. This is essential in order to work through conflict resolution and move in a new direction. We have the unique ability to see the family struggle from all sides, very often trust has been broken, then control is a response to fear, one member feels angry, and the other retreats inward. There can often seem no way to make things better and the same patterns of communicating and dealing are repeated over and over again. Through a solution-focused approach, we construct pathways to heal and a safe forum to explore and express concerns. This service is generally short-term.
Couples Group
Couples therapy is not only for when things seem hopeless. Relationships can benefit from counseling when one or both partners are in active addiction, working toward abstinence or harm reduction, in early recovery, and in long-term recovery. The fundamentals of every relationship tend to be more challenging when a couple has experienced addiction and substance use. The goals of the group will include defining and developing effective communication, appropriate boundaries, empathy, and flexibility. We will also work to empower each partner to bring passion and various forms of intimacy to the relationship.

The pandemic taught us many things, one of them is that connection is possible virtually. Connection occurs when someone understands what you are going through and you feel heard. We don’t need to meet in the office to find it. Let us help you find your best self. Reach out and we will connect through our safe and confidential platform.
